Dilemma for Spring 2008
Okay.. I don't think I ever blogged about this but, early this month I got a letter in the mail from a organization called People to People.. the same organization that my friend in New York, Haley, i apart of. She just recently got back from a two week stay in Japan. My letter was talking about joining their team because I was an eligible student in this school system and my name was marked down as a reference. Last year my Law and Government teacher but my name down as a reference to the organization because his daughter taught Japanese and he knew I was serious about learning it. However.. this summer, we were going to a trip to Australia instead and in probably 3 more years we were to go to Japan. Now.. the price was fair.. we'll be staying with a family there and going to different cities for two weeks.Here's the problem. Just the other day my aunt came home with good news. She told me her old boss signed me up for this other abroad organization that travels around the world. They're going to Japan this summer for also two weeks. But the thing about that, I only get accepted out of winning an essay contest. And I found out it costs more than being with People to People. Now, if that's the case, i'd usually just go to Australia this year and then go to Japan two summers after.. BUT upon winning the contest with other people, they give you a thousand dollars to use in paying for the trip.
So here's my set up for this problem:
Either, 1: Go out of the country to a place I wouldn't mind visiting, for a cheap amount, and with NO work involved. -for me that is x)-
Or, 2: Go out of the country to a place I've always dreamed of going, for a normal amount, with work involved and winning involved.. BUT.. get an extra $1,000.
For 1- The Positive: I get to go to Australia AND Japan.
The Negative: What if somethings happens and I never get to go to Japan, or for some reason I quit my membership with the organization? Also.. I could care less about the outback if Tokyo is involved x/
For 2- The Positive: I don't have to wait for anything, I get to go to Japan right away :D And if my parents are willing to pay the total cost without the $1,000, we get to keep it for whatever we want!! No joke..
The Negative: I'm a good writer.. but what if I just don't win the contest?? Then, I wouldn't be going to Japan NOR Australia!! A double loss..
UGH.. it's so confusing.. I just don't know what to do!!!!! x/

Changed news people.. 1 new negatives and 1 horrible thing to the Japan trip, and a somewhat positive thing..
The somewhat positive thing- I found out last night, even if you don't win the essay contest, you can still go! But the negative to that is, if you don't win you get no one paying for half your bill ($1,000).
The bigger horrible news.. I also found out last night that the trip to Japan isn't even in the Summer.. it's May 15th for two weeks. I'll still be in school when I leave to go. Bad thing about that is.. I don't get to see off my Junior or Senior class. T______________T
Okay.. most people won't care, but I get pretty attached to people. I mean.. seeing someone everyday year after year, and then one year they leave but they won't be back, brings me to months full of tears. Hah.. I know, i'm a baby. But it's not just that.. this is the last year there will be a class higher than my class, AND our junior and senior class will be united. Next year they're sending us off; spreading us out to other schools so our school can be remodeled. Meaning, some people in my Junior class won't even be in the same school as me, and I won't be there those last two weeks to say goodbye to everyone.. to live up the last time I may ever see these people.
I ask.. how am I suppose to enjoy Japan knowing that, huh? And how can I NOT go because of that? This is a place i've been wanting to go to for 7 years, not to mention that i've just wanted to travel OUTSIDE of America. This place.. I thought would take a lifetime to get to. I get to go now, and my parents are actually letting me! You don't know just how much this is getting to me. It's totally screaming:
"Hey! You've always wanted to go to Japan, but knew you had to wait forever, right? Well now you can, right now!! But... you'll never see your classmates again.. and all your friends will be spread out far away from you for a whole year because of it. Your graduation won't even be perfect.. and you'll go straight to college not really enjoying High School..... huh... Oh well! At least you got to go to Japan for two weeks." .... -sigh-
